'Berg Wins One for the Seniors

Tiffin, Ohio – February 20, 2010 – Three players had double figure in points for Heidelberg University as it topped Muskingum University 86-82 on Senior Day. The Berg finishes the regular season at 13-12 overall, 9-9 in OAC on the year, while the Muskies finish 8-17, 3-15 in the conference.

 

In the first half, Muskingum would be up as much as seven points with 12 minutes left when Carson Thomas made a three-pointer.

 

The Berg would respond and would go on an 11-2 run which was topped by freshman guard Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) draining a jump shot outside the paint.

The game would go back and forth including 10 ties and 19 lead changes, while the Muskingum would have the slight 40-39 advantage at halftime.
 
Both teams would continue to battle throughout the rest of the game. The Muskies would have its largest lead of 69-61 with just less than eight minutes left in the game. 

 

Heidleberg would again muster up another run and would tie it up 75-75 with three minutes left, when senior Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) found freshman Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) for a layup.

 

Heidelberg would seal the deal when senior Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) made two clutch free-throws giving Heidelberg a 86-81 lead with seven seconds remaining.

 

Davis led three in double figures with a career-high 20 points and also racked in a game-high six rebounds. Following Davis was Givner and Kinn with 14 and 13 points, respectively.  

 

Calver scored nine points and tied with senior Jim Smalley (Middleburg Heights, Ohio / Midpark) with a game-high five assists. Smalley also contributed with seven points.

 

Sophomore John Miller (Millersburg, Ohio / West Holmes) scored eight points, while freshman Adrian Casey Jr. (Lorain, Ohio / Lorain Admiral King) had seven points.
