Tiffin, Ohio – February 9, 2011 – Despite 13 different players scoring, the Heidelberg University men’s basketball team fell on senior night to Ohio Northern University, 80-62. The Berg drops to 10-12 overall and 8-7 in the OAC, while the Polar Bears improve to 10-12 and 7-8 in conference play.
The first half consisted of three ties with the latest of 24-24 at the 6:36 mark. The Polar Bears followed with a 19-6 run into halftime with Scott Schnelle and Branden Rushton combining with 14 of those points. At half Schnelle led all scorers with 14 points.
ONU would sustain on top with the lead never less then 15 points for duration of the contest.
For the game, Heidelberg connected on 24-of-54 shots from the floor (44.4%), while the Polar Bears made 30-of-55 attempts (54.5%). On the glass, ONU held a 32-28 advantage.
Sophomore Wes Paramore (Painesville, Ohio / Harvey) led the Heidelberg offense with a career-high 11 points. Following was senior Kyle Tuley (Berea, Ohio / Berea) and sophomore Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) with eight points apiece.
Crashing on the boards was sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) with 11 boards to go along with six point and two blocks.
Also contributing on offense was freshman Victor Fortkamp (Saint Henry, Ohio / Saint Henry) and junior Clifton Powell (Detroit Mich. / Bishop Foley) who scored seven and five points, respectively.
Next up for the Berg are three-straight road games to close out the regular season. First up is against Marietta College on Saturday, February 12 at 4:00 p.m.
