TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team will lend its time to 1Matters and Project Connect Tent City this Saturday, Oct. 29 in Toledo. 1Matters is a philanthropic organization based in Toledo that seeks to return families with children to domestic autonomy.
‘Berg men’s basketball student-athletes and coaches will serve as guides in escorting participants to several tents where medical, dental and clothing services are available. They will be tasked with ensuring the participant is treated with dignity and care to make for a pleasant experience.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our student-athletes to lend their time and support and give back to the Northwest Ohio community, while also learning a little about the world around them,” said fourth-year head coach Anthony Gholson, who led the charge in organizing the team’s visit to Toledo.
1Matters seeks to, with dignity first, to return families with children and individuals to domestic autonomy. 1Matters uses the numeral 1 because it signifies an individual, not a statistic. On any given night, 640,000 American 1's, 1 daughter, 1 son, 1 brother, 1 sister, 1 mother or 1 father to some 1, are living on the streets, in cars, or in shelters. For 20 years, 1Matters has brought communities, even competitors together to help change the world, 1 at a time.
