ALBION, Mich.—An offensive rebound and tip-in at the last second by Kolin Kazen sent Albion (Mich.) College to a 67-66 victory over Heidelberg University tonight at Kresge Gym in Albion, Mich. Despite the loss, the Berg had four players score in double figures, led by senior guard Darion Capers (Clayton/Trotwood-Madison) with 17 points.
The Student Princes (1-2) shot 52.3 percent (23-of-44), including 15-of-25 in the second half, but went 19-of-34 from the free-thrown line.
In addition to Capers, junior forward Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) poured in 15 points and matched Capers with a game-high eight rebounds, and forward Victor Fortkamp (St. Henry) and junior guard Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Harvest Prep) added 14 and 12 markers, respectively.
Heidelberg led by as many as nine points with less than seven minutes to play, but an 8-1 run down the stretch, including Kazen’s buzzer beater, gave the Briton’s (2-1) the win.
Albion was led by Lawrence Ridgell with a game-high 20 points and Anthony Wash with 18 markers. Kazen scored 11.
