Lemmon Averages Double-Double; Earns OAC Weekly Honor

Senior forward Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton) of the Heidelberg College men’s basketball team has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 25, 2008, as announced by the league office. It is Lemmon’s second player of the week nod for the 2007-08 season. He previously earned the honor for the week of January 7, 2008.

In a 2-0 week for the Berg, Lemmon averaged a double-double at 23.0 points and 15.5 rebounds a game, to go along with four steals, two assists and a block.

On Wednesday, Lemmon helped guide Heidelberg to an 80-74 win at nationally-ranked Capital University. He finished with 13 points and 18 rebounds. The win over No. 8 Capital was the first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent for Heidelberg since 2005. Lemmon’s play also helped to lock up a second place finish in the league standings for the Berg.

Lemmon returned on Saturday to hit 11 of his 20 shots from the field en route to a career-high 33 points, to go along with 13 rebounds in Heidelberg’s 108-102 double overtime victory at Muskingum College. In the win, Lemmon hit four from long range.

Heading into the postseason, Lemmon averages 14.4 points and 9.8 rebounds a game. For the season, he has posted 12 double-doubles, including one in the last three-straight outings. Of his 12 double-doubles, nine have came against conference foes.

Heidelberg, under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Duane Sheldon, rounded out the 2007-08 regular season with an overall record of 20-5, which ties for the best regular season in the history of the program. Its 14-4 conference record also ties for the best record in league action. The Berg is currently on a five-game winning streak and will be making its 46th appearance, second consecutive, in the OAC Tournament this week. Heidelberg, the No. 2 seed, is set to host No. 7 seed John Carroll University on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Seiberling Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The home tournament game for the Berg is the first since 2002. Wednesday’s game is also slated to be an “Orange Out the Competition” night for all ’Berg fans. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear their orange ’Berg Pride shirt or anything orange.
