MBB Player Andrew Lemmon Honored by NABC

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today its Division III All-District team and coaches, which honors the top men’s basketball student-athletes and coaches in DIII. Heidelberg College’s Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton) of the men’s basketball team was named to the NABC Great Lakes Region First Team.

The all-district teams are selected on by the member coaches of the NABC. A total of 88 student-athletes, from eight districts, were recognized. Those honored are now eligible for the State Farm Division III All-America teams which are selected by the NABC.

Lemmon’s NABC Great Lakes Region First Team selection adds to his already impressive resume from his final season in a ’Berg uniform. Yesterday he was named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team, which followed earning a spot on the Ohio Athletic Conference First Team and was named the OAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. In the classroom, Lemmon will graduate with a degree in accounting and for his efforts was named to the Academic All-OAC First Team this season.

A 6-5 forward, Lemmon led the Berg in scoring with 14.8 points a game, in rebounding with 9.8 boards a game and in blocks with 27. He also shot a team-best .430 percent from long range and was second on the team with 55 made three-pointers and 38 steals.

On the year, Lemmon scored in double figures in 21 of Heidelberg’s 29 games and picked up 14 double-doubles, with nine coming in OAC contests. Within the OAC, Lemmon ranked in the top-five in rebounding, three-point field goal percentage, offensive rebounds (3.31) and defensive rebounds (6.86). Lemmon will leave the Berg with 1,149 career points, which stands 15th all-time.

Heidelberg, under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Duane Sheldon, concluded its season with an overall record of 23-6, which stands second on the list for wins in a season. It was just the second 20-win season in the history of the Berg. Included in its final record was a 20-5 regular season record, which ties the 1983-84 team for the best regular season mark. Against OAC foes, Heidelberg finished at 14-4, good enough for second place. The Berg went on to upset No. 1 seed Capital University on its home court to claim the team’s first OAC Tournament Title, which earned Heidelberg an automatic bid to the program’s third NCAA Championship.
