Preseason off to a Strong Start for the Berg

Preseason practice has already started for the Heidelberg College men’s basketball team, coached by Duane Sheldon. It is an electrifying time of year for the men, who are led by five senior captains this year.

The captains are Shawn Shriver, Matt Eberle, Greg Tyson, Brian Schmidt, and Andrew Lemmon, who have all started for the Student Princes in the past and are looking to make a lasting impact on the program this season. Sheldon is looking to these men to provide leadership to the tight-knit group of returning players and to help welcome in the promising freshmen.

“Our guys are working extremely hard and are excited for the start of the season,” remarked Sheldon.

Looking for a way to get the student body enthusiastic about the upcoming winter season, the ’Berg Halloween Madness will be held in Seiberling Gymnasium at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31. It is a ’Berg Pride event meant to resemble Midnight Madness events put on by NCAA Division I schools.

The pep rally-style occasion, which is being held to honor all sports at Heidelberg, will feature a dunk contest for members of the men’s basketball team and a shooting contest for all other athletes who attend.

The Student Princes begin their season Saturday, November 17 at 7 p.m. across town against the Tiffin University Dragons.
