Men's Basketball Voted to Finish Second in OAC Preseason Poll

The Heidelberg College men’s basketball team, led by head coach Duane Sheldon, was picked second in the Ohio Athletic Conference according to the preseason poll of OAC coaches. The Berg received one vote for first place, along with John Carroll University who is slated in third, while Capital University received eight and the first place ranking.

Rounding out the poll were Ohio Northern University in fourth place, Baldwin-Wallace College came in fifth, Muskingum College took the sixth spot, in seventh was Wilmington College, and Otterbein, Mount Union, and Marietta took eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively.

The team was also mentioned in the Sporting News NCAA Preview of Division III as a possible breakthrough for the postseason in March.

Helping Heidelberg receive a second place ranking an mention in Sporting News was an appearance at the OAC Tournament during the 2006-07 season, and three players who received All-OAC honors.

The Student Princes lost only one player to graduation and returns five starters. They include Second Team All- OAC member Shawn Shriver (Bellevue, Ohio / Western Reserve), along with All-OAC Honorable Mention winners Brian Schmidt (Hinckley, Ohio / Brunswick), and Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton). They are joined by fellow seniors Matt Eberle (Grove City, Ohio / Central Crossing), and Greg Tyson Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior).

Heidelberg begins its season Saturday, November 17 at 7 p.m. across town against the Tiffin University Dragons.
