Free Throws the Difference at Muskingum

The difference in a basketball contest that featured 14 lead changes and nine ties was points at the charity stripe. The Heidelberg men’s basketball team scored nine points compared to 20 by host Muskingum College, which led to a Muskies 72-68 victory.
 
Heidelberg’s Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) knotted the game for the eighth time, 57-57, with just under four minutes to play, but Muskingum connected on 12-straight free throws down the stretch to post the OAC win.
 
The win improves Muskingum to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in the OAC, while the Berg stands at 5-10 and 2-6.
 
For the game, Heidelberg connected on 26-of-58 field goals (44.8 percent) compared to 22-of-47 (46.8 percent) by the Muskies. The Berg also held a 32-28 advantage on the glass. The difference was the Muskies ability to get to the free throw line. Muskingum hit 20-of-25 free throws compared to a 9-of-15 showing by the Berg.
 
Leading the way in the scoring column for Heidelberg was Kinn with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Hessey (Crestline, Ohio / Colonel Crawford) came off the bench to score 15 points, including 12 points from long range.
 
Muskingum had four players in double figures led by Tyler Felt’s 21 points.
