Hessey and Kinn Earn Academic Accolades
Senior guard Jake Hessey (Crestline, Ohio / Colonel Crawford) and junior forward Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) of the Heidelberg University men’s basketball team picked up academic accolades from the Ohio Athletic Conference for their efforts in the classroom and on the hardwood. Hessey earned a spot on the Academic All-OAC team, while Kinn was tabbed an honorable mention selection.
The award winners are selected by the OAC faculty athletic representatives. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his second year of participation in the sport.
Hessey is a chemistry major and carries a 3.62 gpa. It is his second year on the All-OAC Academic Team, after picking up honorable mention honors a season ago. He currently is the OAC’s March Scholar-Athlete of the Month. This year Hessey led the Berg with 62 made three-pointers, while standing second in scoring at 12.2 points a game. He also was third with 43 assists and pocketed 14 steals.
Picking up his first academic honors of his career is Kinn. He is an education major and boasts a 3.44 grade point average. His academic selection joins his nod on the All-OAC Honorable Mention Team. In 2008-09 Kinn led the team in scoring at 16.4 points a night and 7.9 rebounds a game. He also led the way with an .848 free throw shooting percentage and a .518 field goal percentage. For the year, Kinn recorded seven double doubles.
