'Berg Falls to the Quakers
Tiffin, Ohio – January 9, 2010 –The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team dropped a hard fought 79-66 decision to Wilmington College. Heidelberg drops to 8-5 overall, 4-2 in OAC on the year, while Wilmington improves to 12-2, 7-0 in the conference.
In the first half, the game would go back and forth including nine lead changes, while the Quakers would lead by a small margin of 36-33 going into halftime.
After intermission, Wilmington came out strong and scored five quick points including, Brandon Rogers finding R.J. Brown for a layup, making the score 41-33.
Heidelberg would battle back and knot things up to 52-52, when freshman Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) scored an easy two, inside the paint.
Despite great effort by Heidelberg, Wilmington would not give up the lead and would win 79-66.
Givner led the way with a career-high 22 points, to go along with seven rebounds. Backing up Givner was senior Matt Grieves (Huron, Ohio / Huron)with nine points.Senior Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) scored seven points and dished out a game-high seven assists.
Senior Jim Smalley (Middelburg Heights, Ohio / Midpark) and freshman Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) had six points apiece. Davis provided great energy including three dunks and game-high four blocks.
On the glass, Smalley led the team with nine rebounds. Freshman Adrian Casey Jr. (Lorain, Ohio / Lorain Admiral King) racked in six boards and had five points.
Heidelberg is back in action when it travels to John Carroll University on Wednesday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m.
