Seiberling Gymnasium
Seiberling Gymnasium is the heart of Heidelberg athletics, housing Sayger Court, coaches’ offices, athletic training facilities, a recently renovated weight room, locker rooms and classrooms.
Seiberling Gymnasium was completed in 1957 after delays due to World War I and II and the Great Depression. The facility was named in honor of Frank Seiberling, an 1879 alumnus, who became president of Good Year Tire and Rubber Company. He made the lead gift in 1917 and additional monies were received from alumni, churches, local citizens and friends.
Sayger Court is the home to basketball, volleyball and intramural contests, and is also used for commencement and alumni events. The court is named after the late Herman E. Sayger, a 1920 alumnus. Sayger served as a football coach from 1924-1929 and basketball coach from 1925-1930. Also during his tenure at the Berg, Sayger served as a track and tennis coach.
After a fire destroyed the facilities in 1985, an addition was added to Seiberling that includes the athletic offices, weight room and athletic training facilities for the recently accredited athletic training program.
