Terre Haute, Ind. – October 10, 2009 - The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the Pre-Regional Gibson Family Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The nationally ranked Heidelberg’s men’s cross country team finished first (78 points) out of 14 Division III teams.
Second year coach Keith Roberts said the team showed a lot about themselves with today’s performance. “Everyone stepped up today, while running against the nation’s best,” Roberts said. “Our team showed a lot of depth.”
Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) led the way for the men with a time of 25:59 finishing in second place. Following Btucher was Jacob Lemon (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) with a time of 26:38 for 13th place. Also in the top-20 was Bobby Over (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) (26:49) with a 20th place finish.
John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) (26:59) and Jordan Karnes (27:16) contributed with a 27th and 34th place, respectively.
The women finished in 12th place out of 15 teams.
Leading for the women was Bobbie Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) with a top-50 finish of 25:00, finishing in 45th. Meanwhile, Michelle Fitch (Kinsman, Ohio / Badger) finished strong with a time of 27:04. Following Fitch was Macy McFarland (Huron, Ohio / Huron) with a time of 27:49.
Filling out the five spots were Amy Dunham (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial) (27:53) and Anna Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) (28:01).
Heidelberg races next in the OAC Championships, in Wilmington, Ohio on Saturday, October 31 at 11:00 a.m.
