Bowling Green, Ohio – September 11, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country teams, under the guidance of third-year head coach Keith Roberts Jr., took part in the Mel Brodt Invitational. The race was hosted by Bowling Green State University.
Men finished seventh in a field of tough competition including Division I programs. The University of Dayton (2:05:3.9) took first place, while Siena Heights University (2:10:28.8) placed second and Bowling Green State University (2:10:54.4) earned third.
Ohio Athletic Conference foe Ohio Northern University earned fifth with a team time of 2:12:15.5.
Junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) finished in the top-20 with a 19th finish in a time of 26:08.0. Following Karnes was junior John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) (26:13.3) who finished 22nd and sophomore Gareth Graver (Enon, Ohio / Greenon) (26.39.1) who placed 33rd.
Rounding out the top-five for the men were sophomore Dustin Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) (27:22.5) (51st) and freshman Logan Leis (Zansfield, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) (27:27.0) (53rd).
On the women’s side, freshman Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y / Hugh C. Williams) led Heidelberg with a 26th place out of 93 runners in a time of 19:35.4.
Sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) (20:00.3) followed with a 56th finish, while senior Michelle Fitch (Kinsman, Ohio / Badger) crossed the finish line in the time of 20:50.2.
Freshman Jocelyn Staughler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) (21:25.1) and sophomore Macy McFarland (Huron, Ohio / Huron) (21:57.4) rounds out the top-five finishers.
