Tiffin, Ohio –November 15, 2010 – Heidelberg University director of athletics Matt Palm has announced that Briana Shook has been appointed the head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach effective immediately.
“We are excited to have Briana join our coaching staff,” said Palm. “She will be a great addition to the department. She is ready to get started and she knows what it takes to be successful. I look for her to continue to build on our success at Heidelberg.”
Shook previously served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at the University of Toledo from 2004-08. While with the Rockets she assisted with all facets of the program. Prior to starting at Heidelberg Shook worked with North Coast Orthopedic Surgery Inc.
“I am looking forward to get back into coaching,” said Shook. “Coaching is my true passion and I look forward to continue to build the cross country and track and field programs at Heidelberg.”
Following graduation from Toledo in 2004, Shook ran professionally for Nike until 2007. While in undergrad, she was a three-time All-American in track and cross country. Shook won 11 Mid-American Conference titles with three runner-up finishes. In 2002 she was named the Great Lakes Region Cross Country Runner of the Year. From 2004-07 she was the American record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Shook graduated with a degree in photography and communications. In the classroom she was named to the Dean’s List multiple times and earned Academic All-America recognition.
She graduated from nearby Seneca East High School in 1999 and currently resides in Tiffin.
“This is a great opportunity for me to do what I enjoy and it allows me to stay close to home,” said Shook. “Heidelberg has a great family atmosphere and I am excited to get started.”
