GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –Sophie Goobic and Brad Palocko paced the Heidelberg University cross-country teams at the Calvin Knight Invitational on a brisk Saturday morning. The women’s team finished 10th out of 26 teams and the men finished 19th out of 27.
Goobic set a personal record with a time of 18:28.5 in the 5k race. She finished in 11th place.
A pack of Student Princes finished around a minute after Goobic. Dani Blum (19:30), Hayley Cochran (19:37) and Allie Dresser (19:43) came in 55th, 60th and 66th place.
Palocko led the men with a time of 26:20 in the 8k race. Palocko’s time was good for 48th place.
Jon Clinard finished 96th with a time of at 27:34. DeVaughn Churchya, John Webb and Brandon McNeil finished with times over 28 minutes.
“We had eight personal records today,” said head coach Briana Hess. “More importantly, our ladies stepped up when one of our own was hurting. We showed we are tough as nails.”
The teams will lace up their spikes next weekend at the Otterbein Invitational in Westerville.
