Nationally-Ranked Foes Sqaure Off at Calvin
Nationally ranked cross country programs ran to Grand Rapids, Mich. today to take part in the Knights Invitational hosted by Calvin College. The men’s side included five ranked team, which included No. 19 Heidelberg College, while the women had three top-ranked teams.
The Heidelberg men raced to a sixth-place finish with 145 points. On the women’s side, Heidelberg stood eighth with 267 points. The host school swept the top spot in both races. The Calvin men had 31points, while the women won with a score of 36.
Heidelberg’s men’s team was paced by two runners in the top-15 led by a 10th-place finish from Dan Simpson (Leetonia, Ohio / Leetonia) in a time of 25:31.00, while Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) stood 14th (25:38.00). Rounding out the Berg’s top-five runners was Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) in 36th (26:29), Jarrod Saling (Caldwell, Ohio / Caldwell) in 41st (26:46.00) and Jake Lemon (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) in 45th (26:58.00).
Newcomer Ninette Ruch (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame Academy) led the women’s team, finishing 50th in a time of 20:12.00. Fellow classmate Wendy Sumser (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) crossed the finish line second for the Berg women in 20:15.00.
