Men's Cross Country Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Championship

The NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee announced today, November 16,  the field for the 2008 Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships. The Heidelberg College men’s cross country team earned one of 16 at-large bids to the championship.
 
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in the championship.  The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large. Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.
 
Hanover College will host the championships, November 22, at the L.S. Ayres Complex in Hanover, Ind.  The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. eastern time.
 
Heidelberg, under the guidance of first-year head coach Keith Roberts Jr. is making its sixth appearance overall, third-straight, at the NCAA Championship (1997, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2008).
 
Leading the way heading into the national race is all-region performers juniors Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) and Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron), along with freshman Jamie Martin (Wooster, Ohio / Triway).
