Roberts Announces Cross Country Schedule

Second-year Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country and track and field head coach Keith Roberts Jr. has announced the release of its 2009 cross country schedule. The Berg is slated to for six outings, along with its season ending Great Lakes Regional race and possible trip to the NCAA Championships.
 
The year begins with the annual Dragon/Berg Invitational which is co-hosted with Tiffin University Sept. 5.
 
Next up is the Mel Brodt Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio Sept. 12 before taking a weekend off. September closes with a trip to Westerville, Ohio for the Otterbein Invitational Sept. 26.
 
The always competitive All-Ohio Championships are slated for Oct. 2. Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio is the host institution.
 
To help prepare the Berg for the Great Lakes Regional, Heidelberg will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for a pre-regional race Oct. 10.
 
Heidelberg faces a two-week break before looking to move to the top of the Ohio Athletic Conference at the league championship Oct. 31. Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio will host the conference race. The men’s team will look to win its fourth team championship (1998, 1999, 2000), paced by returning OAC Champion senior Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green). The women’s team is in search of its first OAC title.
 
Starting things off in the final month of the season is the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Rose-Hulman Nov. 14. The top-two teams in the regional earn an automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship slated for Nov. 21 in Cleveland, Ohio. The championship will be hosted by OAC member Baldwin-Wallace College. The men’s team will be striving for its fourth-straight trip to the national race and the programs seventh overall (1997, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2008), while the women are working toward their first trip.
