Bauer and Hawkins Pick Up OAC Weekly Honors

Junior wide receiver Lucas Bauer (Huron, Ohio / Huron) and freshman place kicker Jesse Hawkins (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott County) of the Heidelberg College football team have picked up Ohio Athletic Conference weekly honors following their efforts on the gridiron versus Muskingum College on Saturday. Bauer was tabbed as the OAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Hawkins garnered OAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 12, 2007. It is Hawkins second player of the week award on the year.

Heidelberg closed out the 2007 season last weekend with a 52-21 win over visiting Muskingum. Bauer led the Heidelberg aerial game with five receptions for a career-high 216 yards. He was on the receiving end of a 50-yard pass from Dawond Roddy (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) on Heidelberg’s initial play of the game, which resulted in a touchdown. Bauer also recorded a career-high 57-yard reception on the day and scored his second TD of the game on a 49-yard pass from Steve West (Huron, Ohio / Huron).

For the season, Bauer led the team with 676 receiving yards for a team-best 67.6 yards a game, while ranking second in receptions with 40. He was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 Second Team.

In the win over the Muskies, Hawkins continued to ink his name into the Heidelberg record book. His career-high 48-yard field goal topped his previous mark of 47-yards he booted through the uprights a week prior, which are the top-two made field goals in the history of the program. Hawkins added seven more points on PATs.

Hawkins has made a Heidelberg single-season record 14 field goals on the year, with six coming from beyond 30 yards. Overall he hit 14-of-17 field goals on the year and 27-of-29 PAT’s. For the year, Hawkins led Heidelberg in scoring with 69 points.

Heidelberg closed out the 2007 season with an overall record of 4-6 and a 3-6 mark against league foes. First-year head coach Mike Hallett led the Berg to its best season since 1999.
