'Berg Falls to ONU

The Heidelberg College football team fell to Ohio Northern University at home 41-0. The loss drops the Berg to 1-4 overall, 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. ONU currently stands at 1-4 overall as well, 1-3 in the OAC.

The Berg held the Polar Bears to a single touchdown in the first quarter, but ONU quarterback Max Rothacker connected with Brook Crawford for a 46-yard gain that placed the team on Heidelberg’s one yard line. Brent Donley rushed it over the line for six points at just about the 13 minute mark. Jake Heaphy then booted the ball for what would be his second of six extra points made during the game. As the clock wound down in the last seconds of the second quarter, Rothacker completed a two-yard toss to Crawford the team’s third touchdown that would put the Polar Bears up 21-0 going into the half.

ONU would go onto post another TD in the third quarter and two more in the fourth. However, the Polar Bears would only manage six points from the first touchdown of the fourth quarter as a bad snap hampered their extra point attempt.

For the game Heidelberg picked up 167 yards of total offense compared to 384 yards by ONU. Andrew Miller (Dalton, Ohio / Dalton) completed 11-of-26 passes for 138 yards. Meanwhile, Jemar Lewis (Bedford Hts., Ohio / Bedford) led the backfield with 28 yards on 17 carries, while Dawond Roddy (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) finished with 65 yards on two receptions to lead all ’Berg receivers.

Defensively the Berg was led by Vaughn Klein (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) and Wayne Lanum (Marengo, Ohio / Highland). Klein finished with 12 tackles, while Lanum added two sacks and five tackles.
