Roddy Brings Home Heidelberg's Third OAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor
Senior wide receiver Dawond Roddy (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) of the Heidelberg College football team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 17, 2008 announced on Monday by the league office. Roddy’s award marks the third time on the year that Heidelberg has claimed the OAC Offensive Player of the Week honor and the second-consecutive week. Sharing the distinction with Roddy in 2008 has been junior tailback Jemar Lewis (Bedford Heights, Ohio / Bedford) and sophomore quarterback Andrew Miller (Dalton, Ohio / Dalton).
Roddy hauled in his sixth reception of the game and ran 51 yards for pay dirt to score the game-winning touchdown with 16 seconds left in the game at Muskingum College on Saturday. The point after gave the Berg a 45-41 victory. Roddy finished the game with six catches for 101 yards and a career-best three touchdowns. Roddy connected with Miller for TD’s of 25, three and 51 yards. It was the fourth time on the year that he has picked up at least 100-yards through the air. He also had two kickoff returns for 22 yards.
On the year, Roddy led the way with 49 receptions, 809 receiving yards, eight touchdowns and an average of 80.9 receiving yards a game. He also shared team honors in scoring with 48 points. Roddy was the top kickoff returner and had 521 yards in 30 returns.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of second-year head coach Mike Hallett, closed out the year at 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the OAC. The Berg was winners of three of its last four outings and two-straight.
