LOCKBOURNE, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s golf team opened the spring portion of its 2011-12 schedule by placing ninth among 12 teams at the two-day Purple & White Invitational hosted by Capital University. The first round was played Friday at the par-72 and 7,120-yard Westchester Golf Club in Canal Winchester and the second round was played today at the par-72 and 7,077-yard Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne.
Senior Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) led the Berg with 157 strokes and tied for 19th. Senior Brian Cline (Mentor) tied for 29th with 166 strokes, followed by sophomore Troy Keller (Tiffin/Calvert) in a tie for 46th with 169 and seniors Corey Pierson (Troy) in a tie for 48th with 172 and Ryan Treese (Delaware/Hayes) in 55th with 181.
The Student Princes return to the links next weekend for the two-day Ted Barclay Invitational at Granville Golf Course in Granville.
