Lockbourne, Ohio– April 10, 2010 - The Heidelberg University men’s golf team, under the guidance of first-year head coach Daniel Hartsel, finished fifth at the Purple and White Invitational over the weekend. It was hosted by Capital University at the Foxfire Golf Course.
There were 16 teams that participated in the event. Also representing the Ohio Athletic Conference were Ohio Northern University, Capital University, and Wilmington College.
Heidelberg’s shot a 651, which was a 15-stroke improvement from last week. Finishing ahead of the Berg was Malone University (604), Madonna University (618), Thomas More College (645), and Ohio Northern University (648).
The top placer for the Berg was David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle), who tied for sixth place with an exceptional score of 154 (72, 82). Lilly’s 72 round one performance tied for second-best out of all of the participants.
Following Lilly was Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) with a 163 (82, 81) finish, which snagged 25th place. Kevin Lenhart (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) was close behind with a score of 165 (83, 82).
Rounding out the top-five finishes for the Berg was Zach Konis (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion) 169 (85, 84) and Tyler Willamen (Amanda, Ohio / Amanda-Clearcreek) 179 (90, 89).
Cory Pierson (Troy, Ohio / Troy) also posted a score of 175 (89, 86).
Heidelberg will tee it off again starting Saturday, April 16 at the OAC Invitational at the River Greens Course.
