Tiffin, Ohio – April 9, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s golf team was paced by senior David Lilly’s (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle) runner-up finish at the Heidelberg Invitational at the Mohawk Golf and County Club in Tiffin, Ohio.
Heidelberg finished third after firing a 629. The Berg opened with a 324 on rainy opening day, but returned with a 305 and just missed second place. Ohio Northern University won the invitational with a 603 (307, 296) and Grove City College was second with a 628 (312, 316).
Lilly opened with a 79, seven over par, but settled down in round two. On the second day, Lilly fired an invitational-best round of 73, one-over par, to move him in a tie for second place with a 152.
Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) and Brian Cline (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) also improved on their rounds from day one and finished tied for eighth and 10th, respectively. Markley finished with a 157 (79, 78) and Cline fired a 158 (82, 76).
Rounding out Heidelberg’s team that took third was Corey Pierson (Tory, Ohio / Troy) with a 174 (94, 90), good enough for a tie for 21st, and Greg Day (Wayne, Ohio / Lakota) with a 175 (86, 89), which stood 23rd.
Heidelberg also had a group B that competed as a team and finished with a 682 (339, 343). Leading the group was Troy Keller (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert), who shared 10th place with Cline. Keller opened with an 80 and followed with a 78 to finish at 158.
Danny Wisard (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) stood in a tie for 16th with a 169 (83, 86), while Trent Kuelling (Mansfield, Ohio / Madison) was 20th with a 172 (91, 81).
Finishing things for the Heidelberg B team was Ryan Treese (Delaware, Ohio / Rutherford B. Hayes) (86, 91) and Kyle Youngblood (Berea, Ohio / Berea) (90, 87) at 177.
Finally, Heidelberg’s Logan Weiland (Valley City, Ohio / Buckeye) competed as an individual and stood 26th with a 182 (95, 87).
