Heidelberg Places Sixth at OAC Spring Invitational

Pataskala, Ohio – April 18, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s golf team placed sixth at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational. The 54-hole invite took place over the course of two days, April 17-18, and was played at the Cumberland Trails Golf Course in Pataskala, Ohio. Capital University served as host of the invitational.

Bringing home the team championship was Ohio Northern University after firing a 953 (344, 302, 307). Otterbein University was runner-up with a 958 (336, 319, 303) followed by the University of Mount Union with a 979 (347, 327, 305), John Carroll University at 982 (352, 322, 308) and Baldwin-Wallace College at 983 (359, 313, 311). Heidelberg improved on all three of its rounds to finish at 995 (359, 321, 315).

Leading the way for the Berg was David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle) and Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South). Lilly opened up with an 84, only to improve on his final two rounds (80, 79) to shot a 243, which was tied for 14th.

Markley fired a 91 in round one, but bounced back with a team-low round of 77 the second time out. He finished with a 79 to stand in a tie for 20th at 247.

Cory Pierson (Troy, Ohio / Troy) fired a three-round total of 256 (96, 81, 79) to tie for 36th in the final standings. Brian Cline (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Troy Keller (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) rounded out the Berg golfers. Cline was tied for 43rd with a 261 (100, 83, 78), while Keller was 46th with a 264 (88, 83, 93).
