Men's Golf Finishes in Seventh at OAC Championships

West Lafayette, Ohio – May 1, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s golf team had three finish in the top-20 to lead the way at the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship played at the River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio. Muskingum University served as the host institution of the three-day event that covered a par-71 course with a yardage of 6,447.

As a team, the Berg finished in seventh place with a 942. Heidelberg opened with a 308 and improved a stroke, 307, in round two. But round three proved to a tough outing as Heidelberg fired a 327.

Taking home the championship was the University of Mount Union with an 890 (290, 296, 304). Runner up was Otterbein University with a 903 (303, 295, 305) followed by John Carroll University at 905 (299, 302, 304), Ohio Northern University with a 913 (301, 306, 306) and Baldwin-Wallace College at 916 (299, 301, 316). Placing directly ahead of the Berg was the host Muskies with a 919 (299, 301, 319). Capital University rounded out the team scores in eighth with a 949 (319, 310, 320).

Paving the way for the Berg in a tie for 12th was Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South). Markley finished with a 228, which was highlighted by a 74 in round two. He opened with a 75 and closed with a 79.

In a tie for 18th place was David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle) and Brian Cline (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). Lilly fired a team-low round of 73 in his second round of 18, to go along with a 75 and an 83 to finish at 231. Cline finished with a 231 as well. He opened with a 75 and followed with a 77 and 79.

Finishing in 41st and 42nd, respectively, was Cory Pierson (Troy, Ohio / Troy) and Troy Keller (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert). Pierson fired a three-round total of 254 (83, 83, 88), while Keller had a 257 (84, 87, 86).
