Findlay, OH – On September 16 and 17, the Heidelberg men’s golf team traveled up State Route 224 to Red Hawk Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio to host the Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Invitational.
After the first 18-hole round, Madonna University paced the twelve-team field with a score of 302. OAC foe John Carroll was close behind with a 307, followed by Northwestern Ohio (311), Ohio Northern (313) and Mount St Joseph College (314).
After 36 holes, the top three would remain unchanged as Madonna University took home first place with a combined total of 605 (302-303).
The Berg was led by freshman Kevin Hiller (Port Clinton) who carded an 81 (42-39) on Sunday. Consistent play from Hiller lead to another 81 (41-40) on Monday for the Student Princes, landing him in a tie for 30th place.
Junior Jared Linden (Grafton/Midview) played tough on Sunday, swinging his way to 37th place with an 83 (44-39). The second day of competition would prove to be a difficult round for Linden however, as he finished with a 93 (47-46).
Michael Brothers (Belleville) had a rough start on Sunday, carding a 97 (47-50) but rallied on Monday to shoot an 86 (45-41).
Freshman Chase Hushour (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) had a tough outing both days with a 93 (52-41) on Sunday, followed by a 100 (51-49) on Monday.
As a team, Heidelberg shot a 714 (354-360), finishing eighth among their OAC counterparts.
Individually, Mount St. Joseph’s Matt Stiens led the field after the first day shooting an impressive even-par 72. Due to Stiens 82 on Monday, the medalist honors went to Alex DiPalma of John Carroll University.
DiPalma finished in a tie for third after Sunday, shooting a 74, but roared into first with an even-par 72 on Monday and claimed an OAC individual title for the Blue Streaks.
The Heidelberg men’s golf team will hit the links again on September 30, when they travel to Alliance to compete in the Mount Union Fall Invitational. The invitational will be played at Alliance Country Club.
