Men's Golf Opens Spring at Muskingum Invite
The spring of 2008 brings hopes of continued success for the Heidelberg College men’s golf team. The team began its pursuit of achievement at the Muskingum Invitational hosted by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference member Muskingum College at the Eagle Sticks Golf Course in Zanesville, Ohio March 28-29.
The Berg finished the invitational in eighth place after firing a 631. In round one, the Heidelberg golfers combined to shoot a 318 and improved in round two by five strokes with a 313. Mount Union College won the outing shooting 585 (299, 286).
Heidelberg was represented by a wealth of youth in its first invitational of 2008 led by sophomore Zack Koinis (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion). Koinis recorded a two-day total of 147 (75, 72), good enough for a seventh place tie. Newcomer David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle) finished in a tie for 32nd with a 156 (79, 77), while sophomore Kevin Lenhart (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) stood tied for 45th at 163 (81, 82).
Rounding out Heidelberg’s golfers was freshman Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) with a 165 (83, 82) and senior Chad Waleryszak (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) shot a 175 (93, 82). In the final individual standings, Markley was tied for 52nd, while Waleryszak was 62nd.
Heidelberg returns to the course next weekend, April 4-5, at the Capital Invitational. Capital University will host the event at the Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne, Ohio.
