Koinis Medals at Purple and White Invitational

For the first time since 2004, a Heidelberg College golfer has medaled in competition. Zack Koinis (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion) took the title for the Purple and White Invitational held by Capital University this weekend. The last Heidelberg golfer to win an event was at the Muskingum Invite two years ago when head women’s coach Garrett Humes shot his way to the top. Overall the team finished eighth out of the 11 schools represented.

The invitational, held at the Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne, Ohio, is one of the top small college golf tournaments in the region; this year's 36-hole event featured 53 men in the field. Koinis’s first round mark of 73 on the par 72 course tied for second place on the all-time tournament record list for low individual rounds on the Foxfire Course. His second round score of 75 comes in tied at second on the Players Club Course’s all-time list of low rounds for the event.. The team’s overall score for the first round, 315, also made the list for low team rounds on the Foxfire Course, coming in tied at number four. The team was just one stroke shy of its 314 round from a year ago. It also tied for third on the low team rounds on the Players Club Course in the second round with a cumulative score of 332.

Also competing for Heidelberg was David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle), who finished second on the team and tied for 35th for the event with an overall score of 164, having shot 82 both rounds. Craig Meyer (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) finished third on the team with a score of 167 (78, 89), Kevin Lenhart (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) came in fourth on the team having shot 168 (82, 86), and Chad Waleryszak (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) rounded things out for the Berg with a collective score of 179 (90, 89).

The men return to the green on April 12-13 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Invite held at the River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio.
