Heidelberg Concludes Preparation for OAC Championships
The Heidelberg College men’s golf team closed out its regular season and its preparation for the 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships over the weekend at the Ohio Northern University Spring Invite. There is no better way to prepare itself for the upcoming league championships then taking to the course where the championships will tee off. The ONU Spring Invite was held at the Colonial Golfers Club in Lima, Ohio, the site for the 2008 OAC Championships April 23-25.
Heidelberg finished tied for eighth in the final standings of the 16-team invitational after carding a 624. Winning the invite title was Owens Community College with a 590.
Continuing his solid play on the spring was Zack Koinis (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion). Koinis opened day one of action with a one-under par, 71, and followed up in round two with a 75, just missing medalist honors. He shared runner-up honors with Owens’ Jason Smith.
Firing a 157 (78, 79) was David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle), which earned him a tie for 36th, while Craig Meyer (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) shot a 77 in day one and an 83 for a combined 160 to stand in a tie for 49th. Kevin Lenhart (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) had a tough first round shooting an 82, but bounced back with a 79 on Sunday to finish at 161. Rounding out the Heidelberg golfers was Chad Waleryszak (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) with a 174 (85, 89).
