Solid Second Round Lifts 'Berg Golfers

A strong second round lifted the Heidelberg College men’s golf team to a sixth place finish in the OAC Fall Invitational. The invitational was hosted by Heidelberg at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio.
 
After firing a 328 in round one of action Heidelberg stood in 11th place, but bounced back in the afternoon and shot a 303 to finish in sixth. John Carroll University claimed the invite team championship with a two-round total of 596 followed by Otterbein College (602), Tiffin University (617), Baldwin-Wallace College (627) and Owens Community College (630).
 
Pacing Heidelberg was Kevin Lenhart (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) with a 152 (78, 74), good enough for a tie for seventh place. Zack Koinis (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion) fired an 80 in round one, but settled down and shot a Heidelberg best 73 in round two. Koinis finished at 153, just missing a top-10 finish in an 11th-place tie.
 
The duo of David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle) and Craig Meyer (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) tied for 34th at 163. Lilly finished with an 82 and an 81, while Meyer shot an 88 in round one and returned with a 75. Rounding out the scorers for the Berg was Sam Arnold (Springfield, Ohio / Kenton Ridge) with a 174 (88, 86), which stood tied for 61st.
 
Heidelberg returns to the green at the Capital Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27. The invite will be played at the Westchester Golf Club in Canal Winchester, Ohio.
