Brenton Dawson enters his second season as Heidelberg’s assistant men’s soccer coach. In his first season, Dawson helped the Student Princes to their first Ohio Athletic Conference championship in school history after the team went undefeated in conference play. Dawson brings a wealth of knowledge gained during his playing and coaching careers to the program and holds a National C license and goalkeeping state diploma.
The a Springfield, Ohio, native, joined Heidelberg following two years coaching at Wittenberg University. While at Wittenberg, Dawson helped lead the Tigers to their best season in school history and a No. 5 national ranking.
For the past five years, Dawson has been involved in youth soccer, coaching with both Club Ohio FC and the Ohio South Olympic Development Program (ODP). Dawson currently coaches the U17 and U18 teams at Club Ohio FC, and won state titles with both teams last spring. His U18 team also won the top tier of the MRL league last spring. Dawson has been involved with coaching and directing the Great Britain Buckeye Soccer Camps during the summer since age 15.
Dawson played two seasons at OAC rival Capital University before studying abroad at the American University of Rome in Rome, Italy where he played during his junior year.
Dawson earned his Bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Capital and is scheduled to complete his Master’s degree in education in May 2012.
