TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg men’s soccer team will look for its first win of the 2011 season when it hosts Defiance College in a non-conference match-up tomorrow (Tuesday, September 6) at Mayer Field. The Student Princes’ dropped a tough 1-0 decision in double overtime in their season opener last Saturday against Albion (Mich.) College. A 104th minute goal from the Britons’ Josh Deuel ended the defensive stalemate.
In that game, junior 2010 second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference goaltender Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) logged all 104 minutes, faced seven shots and made six saves.
Defiance enters tomorrow’s match-up with a 1-1 record after defeating Wittenberg University and losing to Thiel (Pa.) College in the Defiance Classic last weekend. Both games were decided by 1-0 scores.
Live stats for tomorrow’s game will be available on the Heidelberg athletics website at www.heidelberg.edu/athletics.
