'Berg Ties with Siena Heights

Tiffin, Ohio – September 30, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team tied with Siena Heights University with a score of 1-1. The Berg goes to 5-3-1, while the Saints stand at 4-4-3.

Siena Heights did not waste any time to score when in the first minute of the game, Joe Deneweth snuck the ball past Heidelberg’s goal keeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) off a penalty kick to make the score 1-0.

Heidelberg’s Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) responded in the 82nd minute when he made a heads up play as the ball was deflected off Siena Height’s goal keeper, and placed the ball in the corner of the far post knotting up the game 1-1.

Despite great effort from both squads, neither team could find the back of the net through two overtimes, resulting in a tie.

The Berg outshot the Saints 25-12. Following the lead of Buhrman who recorded seven shots with four shots on goal was Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) who had five shots and two shots on goal and Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) earning five shots with one shot on goal.

The Berg’s Ryan Smith had six saves for the game, which brings his total to 38 for the year.
