Grove City, Pa. – September 8, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team, under the guidance of 22nd year head coach Brian Haley, defeated Grove City College today 1-0. The Berg improves to 2-1 overall, while the Wolverines fall to 1-1-1.
After stiff defense from both sides in the first half, both teams would go into halftime scoreless.
Heidelberg would score the only point in the game in the 52nd minute when junior Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) found freshman Matt Paquette (Houston, Texas / Katy) who placed the ball in the back of net, putting the Berg on top 1-0. This marked Paquette’s first goal of his collegiate career.
For the game, the Berg outshot the Wolverines 6-5. Junior Mike Harling (Manchester, New England / Holy Cross) had a team-high two shots on goal. Also making impact on the field was junior Jakob Reinbolt (Whitehouse, Ohio / Anthony Waynge) and senior Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) who each had a shot, while McCarthy earned a shot on goal.
Goal keeper Mike Kenny (Rocky River, Ohio / Rocky River) got his first start in his collegiate career and produced with three saves on the day.
Heidelberg completes its three game road trip when it travels to Allegheny College, Saturday at 5 p.m.
