Beaver Falls, Pa. – September 18, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team was defeated by Geneva College with a score of 4-1.
The Berg drops to 4-2 overall, while the Golden Tornadoes improve to 4-1-1.
Geneva scored right out of the gate with a goal from David Harwood who snuck the ball past Heidelberg’s goalie in the first minute of play.
“The early goal was a pivotal moment in the match,” head coach Brian Haley said. “It changed the rest of the game.”
Heidelberg would knot things up 1-1 in the 19th minute when junior Mike Harling (Manchester, England / Holy Cross) found junior Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) for the goal. This marked Juart’s first goal of the season.
Geneva would score six minutes before half and two goals back-to-back in the 67th minute.
“When you’re down you attack more,” said Haley. “This leaves spaces and good teams will exploit that.”
Juart had a game-leading three shots on goal. Senior Adrew Crowl (South Euclid, Ohio / Brush) registered his first shot on goal of his collegiate career.
“No excuses,” Haley said. “We'll regroup and we'll get back together.”
Heidelberg will look to get back in the win column when it hosts Hiram College on Tuesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m.
