Berea, Ohio – October 13, 2010 - The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team, recently ranked No. 9 in the Great Lakes Region in the latest the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, stayed undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference tonight with a 3-2 win over Baldwin-Wallace College.
The Berg improves to 9-3-1 overall, 3-0-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 8-5-2, 1-3 in conference play.
"Good win for us tonight," head coach Brian Haley said. "We worked hard for it."
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the first half in the 24th minute when Tyler Leister hit a header to the far post off the penalty kick cross from Andrew Thompson.
Two minutes later, Heidelberg knotted the game at 1-1 when Jakob Reinbolt (Anthony Wayne, Ohio / Whitehouse) tapped in the low cross from Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby). This marks Reinbolt’s second score of the year.
In the second half, the Berg took its first lead of the game in the 55th minute when Grant Beck (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) flicked the free kick pass from McCarthy to the far post. Beck now is second on the team with five goals.
B-W tied the game for the second time when Noah Eubanks tallied the unassisted goal from the top of the box at 76th minute.
With less than ten minutes remaining in the game, Heidelberg clinched the game winner when Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) knocked the cross from Erik Furst (Columbus, Ohio / Upper Arlington) off his thigh into the goal. Buhrman’s goal was his team-best fourth game winner of the season and stands atop with six scores total.
Goalie Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) gathered in four saves on the night.
"The team is learning how to win," Haley said. "It doesn't matter who we play, the belief is that we're not going to get beat and that is very important."
Heidelberg looks to stay flawless in the OAC as it hosts the University of Mount Union, Sat. Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
