Heidelberg Men's Soccer to Play Two Matches at Wilmington Kiwanis Classic

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team will play Allegheny (Pa.) College and St. Vincent (Pa.) College on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10 at the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic at Wilmington College. Both matches begin a 5 p.m.

The Student Princes are coming off a 1-1 tie against Defiance College, which visited Heidelberg on Tuesday.

After a deadlocked first half, senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Mike Harling (Manchester, England/Holy Cross) broke a scoreless game in the 64th minute when he received a right-side cross from sophomore defender Erik Furst (Columbus/Upper Arlington) to net his first goal of the season.

Defiance tied the game in the 69th minute and neither team could gain an edge offensively for the remainder of regulation or two overtime periods.

After two matches, the Berg stands 0-1-1. Junior 2010 second-team All-OAC goaltender Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) logged 214 minutes in goal, has made seven saves and allowed two goals.
