TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team fell to No. 10 Baldwin-Wallace College, 1-0, tonight in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Mayer Field in Tiffin, Ohio. The game wrapped up a three-match home stand for the Student Princes. In addition, tonight’s match was the second Heidelberg Athletics Events and first men’s soccer match to be broadcast live on the ‘Berg Athletics Network. The loss drops Heidelberg to 2-7-4 overall and 0-3-1 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets improve to 13-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the OAC.
The lone score of the game came from Carlin Vandendriessche, the OAC’s leading goal scorer, when he put B-W up, 1-0, with a 44th-minute header off a Michael Brennan through ball from 30 yards out.
Freshman midfielder Nicholas Samaniego (Huron) and junior midfielder Trevor Dawson (Keller, Texas/Keller) led the Berg with two looks at goal.
Junior two-time All-OAC goalkeeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) collected two saves in 90 minutes of action.
Ryan Hulings logged all 90 minutes in goal for the Yellow Jackets, but did not make a save.
The Yellow Jackets outshot Heidelberg, 13-6, while the Student Princes held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Heidelberg returns to the pitch Saturday, Oct. 15 when it travels to Alliance to face the University of Mount Union in the nightcap of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader at 7 p.m.
