ADA, Ohio—Senior Luke Terndrup (Columbus/Bishop Ready) made three saves in his second career start in goal, but the Heidelberg University men’s soccer team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference match at No. 14 Ohio Northern University at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada, Ohio.
The loss drops the Berg to 3-10-4 overall and 1-6-1 in the OAC. With the win, the first place Polar Bears improve to 15-2-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the OAC. A win in their next match will secure the OAC regular season championship and top seed in the upcoming OAC tournament.
"We played very well, given the circumstances of playing shorthanded," said 23rd-year head coach Brian Haley. "At half time we felt we had a chance to go on and win the game—we had what we thought was a good goal pulled back just before half time—that could have made the difference. We could not ask anymore from the young squad today. I was pleased for some of the players making their debut."
Nathan Bascom scored goals in the 52nd and 69th minutes to lead ONU.
The Student Prince attack was paced by freshman midfielder Tyler Eoff (Oak Harbor), who fired five shots and placed two on goal.
Terndrup faced seven shots in 90 minutes of action.
Mac Church made four saves in 79 minutes for ONU.
The Polar Bears outshot Heidelberg, 22-10, and held a 13-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Student Princes will close the 2011 campaign Saturday, Oct. 22 in an OAC match at Wilmington at 5 p.m.
