Student Princes Top Tri-State
The Heidelberg College men’s soccer team, led by head coach Brian Haley, triumphed over Tri-State by way of a game-winning goal by freshman Charlie Sales (Tucson, Ariz. / Sabino) in the last three minutes of play. The young forward slipped past defenders for an unassisted shot straight into the net, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Berg.
Fellow freshman Owen Botting (Billingsburst, England / The Weald School) led the team with three shots on goal and also scored the first goal off an assist from junior Brad Howell (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington) in the very beginning of the game.
It was an aggressive game on both sides of the ball, with 33 total fouls being given out to both teams. But sophomore goalie Jared Kealy (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) managed to keep his cool while guarding the net and saved four of the Thunder’s five shots on goal. Heidelberg ended up out shooting their opponent nearly two to one by the end of the game.
Heidelberg next game is against Hanover on Sunday Sept. 9 away in Hanover, Ind.
