Men's Soccer Falls to Emory

It was a rough weekend for the Heidelberg College men’s soccer team, having fallen to host school Centre College 1-0 Friday night in the opening round of the Adidas Tournament, the Student Princes fell again to Emory University 4-0 in the final round of play.

The men were out shot 17-6 and only managed two shots on goal. Making those two for the Berg were Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Brad Howell (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington).

Sophomore Jared Kealy (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) suffered the loss at the net for the Berg, recording four saves on the day. Unfortunately, he let four slip passed, giving Emory the win.

The men return to action Tuesday Sept. 18 for their home opener against Siena Heights. Play starts at 4:00 p.m.

“The weekend showed the team what it will take to get to national rankings as both Centre and Emory are both power houses with respect to Division III soccer rankings. These are the types of games we need to play to improve and prepare us for the OAC. While this weekend did not produce positive results on the field it showed some potential for the team. Overall it was a very positive experience for us all and one we learned a great deal from. If we learn form the experience and play at the same level we should be in good shape when the OAC season begins," commented head coach Brian Haley.
