Pioneers Slip by Heidelberg for the Win
The ball was controlled by Heidelberg College for the first half of the men’s soccer game versus Marietta College, but the Pioneers came out strong in the second and commanded the field for the remainder of the game. With the loss, Heidelberg falls to 8-8 overall, 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Marietta rises to 6-7-2, 2-4-1 in the OAC.
It was also Senior Recognition day at the last regular season home game for the Berg. Seniors Robbie Marks (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth) and Craig Watkinson (Rotherham Yorkshire, England / Thomas Danby) were recognized for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
Marietta’s goal came late in the game, in the 75th minute, as Dele Adedapo slipped a free kick just over the head of Heidelberg’s goalkeeper, Jared Kealy (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome). Kealy suffered the loss at the net for the Berg, but racked up six saves for his effort.
Heidelberg returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 24 against fellow OAC foe Otterbein. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
