Heidelberg battles to double overtime tie at Siena Heights

The Heidelberg College men’s soccer team traveled to Siena Heights University tonight and played tough against a NAIA opponent. In the end Heidelberg battled evenly and finished in a 2-2 tie in double overtime. The tie gives Heidelberg a 1-3-1 overall record, while Siena Heights sits at 1-1-2.
 
Heidelberg got the scoring started early as Brian Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) found Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) at the 1:41 mark of the opening half to give the Berg a 1-0 advantage. The Berg held its slight advantage for close to 15 minutes before Siena Heights’ Koe Deneweth tied the score at 1-1 in the 16th minute.
 
The score remained at 1-1 heading into the intermission. Siena Heights struck first in the second half, as Joe Zanni found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Heidelberg battled back and forth and Juart connected on a free kick from 25-yards out in the 72nd minute to knot the score for the second time on the night.
 
In overtime, Siena Heights outshot Heidelberg 6-5, but the Berg held on for the 2-2 tie. For the game, Juart led the way for Heidelberg with a goal and an assist, while Buhrman tallied the other goal. Brian Benson (Bay Village, Ohio / Bay) controlled the net for the Berg, finishing with nine saves on the night.
