Panthers Take a Bite Out of Student Princes
Though they fought hard, the Heidelberg men’s soccer just could not stop the Ohio Dominican University Panthers from reaching the goal and lost 4-0.
Heidelberg came into the game looking to compete against top-tier competition in preparation for their Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, October 4, versus no. 9 Marietta College and they found it in Ohio Dominican. The Panthers began the year ranked 14th in the nation in NAIA play.
After an even first half which ended with ODU ahead 1-0, the Panthers feet came alive and the team scored two goals under a minute apart with just over 15 minutes left to play. ODU netted another one about four minutes later to secure the win.
Freshman Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) led the Berg offense with three shots, two of which were on goal, while senior Craig Watkinson (Rotherham Yorkshire, England / Thomas Danby) recorded two shots on goal as well. Senior Brian Benson (Bay Village, Ohio / Bay) guarded the net the entire contest for the Student Princes and picked up four saves to add to his season total of 56.
Heidelberg’s game against Marietta begins at 2 p.m. on Marietta Field in Marietta, Ohio.
