Student Princes Top the Quakers

In the 75th minute Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) booted a shot into the lower corner of the goal, scoring the game-winning shot and securing a 2-1 victory for the Heidelberg men’s soccer team over Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Wilmington College. Mike Harling (Rochdale, England / Holy Cross), who also netted the team’s first goal of the day at the 8:29 mark, provided the assist on the play.

With the win, Heidelberg rises to 5-6-2 on the year, 2-0-1 in the OAC, the Quakers drop to 8-4-1 overall, 1-1-1 in the conference.

Anthony Montgomery scored for Wilmington off an assist from Thomas Keane in the 88th minute as the Quakers did their best to make a comeback.Montgomery, Keane, and Cayleb Paulino provided a shot on goal each for Wilmington during the contest. Goalkeeper Aaron Slusher racked up two saves during his time in goal.

For the Berg, Harling led the team with a goal and an assist, while Buhrman took a game-high seven shots. Brian Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) and Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) kicked a shot on goal each to bring  Heidelberg’s total to four for the day. Brian Benson (Bay Village, Ohio / Bay) stood in goal all 90 minutes for the team and picked up two saves.

Heidelberg returns to action on Tuesday, October 14, at home versus John Carroll University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
