Men's Soccer Places Two on Academic All-OAC Team
The Ohio Athletic Conference announced the 2008 men’s soccer Academic All-OAC award winners and Heidelberg College senior defender Brad Howell (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington) earned a spot on the team, while senior midfielder Raul Mendez (Mexico City, Mexico / Green Hills) was tabbed an honorable mention selection.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have maintained a 3.25 grade point average, be a sophomore academically and is in at least his second year of participation. He must also have been a starter or key reserve who has made significant athletic impact. The honorees are voted on by the faculty athletic representatives.
Howell is earning his first postseason honor of his career. He will graduate with a degree in business and cumulated a 3.60 grade point average. In his final season, Howell took 15 shots, with six on goal, while adding one assist.
Mendez is picking up his second postseason honor on the year with his academic recognition. He is a 3.30 student while studying business. Mendez was named to the All-OAC Honorable Mention Team in 2007 and 2008. In his final campaign Mendez recorded two goals and two assists for six points. He took 24 shots on the year, with 11 landing on goal.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of 20th-year head coach Brian Haley, concluded its season at 7-11-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the OAC. The Berg made its 11th, second-straight, appearance in the OAC Tournament.
