Michael Juart Comes Up Big for ‘Berg
Tiffin, Ohio – October 3, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team was victorious over Marietta College with the score of 2-1 in overtime. The Berg improves to 6-3-1, 1-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers drop to 2-8-1, 0-1 in the OAC.
It was evenly matched through the first half with the score tied 0-0. However, in the second half Heidelberg’s Grant Beck (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) took matters into his own hands (or feet for that matter) as he scored the first goal of the game in the 61st minute from six yards out. It was Beck’s second score of the season.
With less than ten minutes left in the game, Marietta’s Dele Adedapo connected with Seita Kawamoto as Kawamoto made a diving header placing the ball past Heidelberg’s Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) in the 82nd minute knotting up the game 1-1. The score resulted in sending the game into overtime.
In the 98th minute in overtime, Heidelberg’s Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) scored the game-winning goal as he caught Marietta's goalie out of position and kicked the ball in the back of the net from 22 yards out. This marked Juart's first collegiate goal.
Heidelberg’s Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) had a team-leading six shots with two shots on goal, while Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) had five shots with one shot on goal.
Heidelberg looks to make it two-straight wins against OAC opponents, as they travel to Baldwin-Wallace College, Tuesday October 6, at 7:00 p.m.
