‘Berg Ties With John Carroll

Tiffin, Ohio – October 14, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team had to settle for a tie against John Carroll University with the score of 1-1. The Berg goes to 7-4-2, 2-1-1 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks stand at 6-5-4, 0-2-2 in the OAC.
 
All of the scoring occurred in the first half, with John Carroll’s Corey Rider putting the first point on the board in the 26th minute, making the score 1-0. Heidelberg answered when Grant Beck (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) connected with Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) in the 41st minute, who then placed the ball in the back of net knotting up of the game 1-1. The score marked Buhrman’s team-leading fourth goal of the season.
 
With stellar performances from both goal keepers, neither team could find the back of the net for the rest of the match, which resulted in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
                                                                                                                         
Buhrman led the Berg with four shots and two shots on goal. Grant Beck (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) contributed with two shots and two shots on goal. Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) and Joel Oldham (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) each had two shots and a shot on goal.  
 
Heidelberg’s goal keeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) accumulated six saves on the night.
 
Heidelberg returns to action when they travel to Otterbein College, Saturday October 17, at 2:00 p.m.
